Hazel Brookman

June 24, 1931 ~ May 31, 2018 (age 86)

Hazel Lee Brookman, age 86, of Jamestown, Ohio, passed away May 31, 2018 at Miami Valley Hospital following a debilitating stroke. She was born in Madera, California on June 24, 1931 and was preceded in death by her parents Opal and Albert Kincy, sister Sibyl Simmons, brother Richard Kincy, her husband, Charles Brookman and her first husband Frank Fenters.

She is survived by her son, Steven Fenters; nieces Deanna Lee Castle, Emily Ann Bush and Susan Murillo; nephews Richard Self, Richard Kincy and Mark Kincy; and special friends Tina Falgner, Lori Howard, Susan McCauley, and Mieko McMeans.

Hazel was a tough and resilient but gentle lady, having survived a childhood of working in the agricultural fields of the California central valley and adult residency in multiple states following her husbands’ careers. Included in the latter was a stint living in the wilds of Alaska, before the oil boom days, where she had actually shot a moose, a feat of which she was always proud! She always made friends easily and was open with people, a characteristic that fueled a later life career as a star salesperson in specialty retail. In her later 70s she helped start a Bible study group in her newly adopted hometown of Jamestown.

She was a member of St. Colman Catholic Church in Washington Court House, Ohio where a funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 10:00 with Fr. Michael Hartge presiding. Burial of her cremains will be held in California at a later date.

A Celebration of Hazel’s life will be held for family and friends at her home in Jamestown on Friday, June 8, 2018  from 3 – 6 PM.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Neuro Unit at Miami Valley Hospital, Community Care Hospice and Fr. Hartge for their outstanding and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Community Care Hospice, 1669 Rombach Avenue, Wilmington, OH 45177, are suggested.

Powers-Kell Funeral Home of Jamestown assisted with cremation and arrangements.
